The snooker table finds a home

After six years in storage the snooker table, once housed in the Reading Room, has found a suitable new home.

Mrs. Strickland's brother Robin Aconley learned to play on the table as a young man growing up in the village. He approached the Reading Room committee when he heard the table had been mothballed.

The committee agreed to let the table leave the village and go to Robin's home near Doncaster where he's now having a room built to house it. He has employed a specialist company to renovate, balance and recover the table at considerable expense. He also generously made a donation of £100 to the Reading Room.

Robin has said he will send us a photo of the refurbished table when it's installed for our archive. He also suggested giving the village first refusal should he need to sell the table or making a further donation on it's resale.

Robin mentioned a memory he has of the table from 1963. He was listening to the radio and having warmed the iron on the stove was ironing the baize. The radio programme was interrupted to bring news of the Kennedy assassination.
